Hello, I would like to share with you  the adventurous world of Geocaching, it's an online and real life treasure hunt that anyone can join and start enjoying right away. Geocaching is for real, and it is World Wide!

If you have never heard of the term Geocaching, you should go to their official website @ http://www.geocaching.com/  to check it out for yourself and get the full details of what it is and how it works, I am only going to touch briefly on personal experiences and the fun my family and I have had with it.

Geocaching is an absolutely fun way to pass time and to get all of your family and friends involved in an  outdoor and online activity. My daughter and I have only been Geocaching for a short while, just over a year. We have had so much fun with Geocaching that we finally made the decision to select a hand held GPS ( Global Positioning System ), the "Garmin eTrex H Handheld GPS Navigator" found on the Store Front page, so we can expand our cache selections and make them more accurate.

Once you go to the Geocaching website and have a look around, it will surprise you to learn how many treasures are so very close to your home, and you never even knew they existed. It is mind boggling.

Once my daughter and I started Geocaching, we found over a hundred "caches" within 5 miles of our home, and we live 1/8th of a mile from the Atlantic Ocean, so the only real ways to go any significant distance were North, South and West.

"Caches" are what they call the containers that hold the treasure or items that you are looking for.

Some caches are very easy to find and there is no need for a GPS in order to locate them, they are "grab and go" caches, that was how we started. Other caches are extremely hard to locate and without a GPS they can not be located unless you are a very persistent or a lucky person.

The game is explained in detail on the Geocaching website, there are "terms of engagement", or basically rules that you must follow to play, However; once you learn how to play, it becomes quite addicting and generally loads of fun.

Some days my daughter and I plan out how many caches we are going to aim to locate and we just get to it. Usually the caches are the type where you get to take a piece of treasure and you must leave a piece in it's place, but there are some that are simply there to locate and log as found.

If you are an active person, or just feeling adventurous, Geocaching may be just the thing for you. I encourage you to try Geocaching out for yourself and see if you get "hooked" like we did. I am sure you will love the adventure as much as we do. I hope to see you on the site or a log sheet soon.
